The European Job Fair!
The Career and Job Fair Sub-Committee's objective is to help identify career opportunities for European Commission (EC) stagiaires during their stage (Oct 2011 - Feb 2012), to inform them of employers needs and requirements. We organise events throughout the stage, such as CV writing, job interview and other career guidance workshops. The Job Fair is the biggest event organised by the EC stagiaires Career Subcommittee. Its main purposes are to help fellow stagiaires to identify career opportunities, to optimise their skills and qualifications, and, ideally, to match stagiaires with potential employers, represented by our carefully selected companies and organisations.
These highly motivated, multilingual and multicultural stagiaires are among the best qualified young graduates in Europe. Every year the Commission receives around 8,000 applications for each of the two traineeship cycles. From these applicants, only 600 stagiaires are chosen to take up positions mainly based in Brussels and Luxembourg.
The Job Fair usually takes place twice a year, in the Charlemagne premises. This year it will be held on the 18th of January, room Alcide de Gasperi. The Fair will start at 11 am with short presentations of the companies, followed by several workshops and panel discussions. After lunch, and in parallel with the stand exhibitions, real job interviews will be held until 7.00 pm, in time for the official closure and networking cocktail. Around 400 stagiaires from all European Institutions are expected and they will have the possibility to meet great recruiters, to prepare themselves for job interviews, build a new network… ...

WORKSHOP 1: THE ART OF COVER LETTER WRITING
How many times have you considered how to write the perfect cover letter? How shall I explain my motivation? Which qualities should I point out? How to relate them to a particular job offer? What level of formality is appropriate? If you are still looking for the right answers to these (and other) questions, register for the workshop on The Art of Cover Letter Writing. Three managers from different domains (a private sphere recruiter, an EPSO official and an EC Head of Unit) will present their point of view on reading and decoding cover letters. Separate interactive workshops will provide you with sufficient information about the right style, register and composition of cover letters, and hopefully secure an invitation to your dream job interview.
WORKSHOP 2: INTRODUCTION TO NETWORKING
What is RALPH? Rapidly Adapting Lateral Position Handler? Real Assisted Living For Physically Handicapped? Neither. Ralph is a bar at Place Lux where dozens of beer fans establish networking relations every Thursday night. But what is this mysterious activity? Are there any rules that need to be respected? Why is it useful? Or perhaps there is no universal recipe to getting to know the right people.
SPEAKERS:
Fabrice Drukman, Business Manager, Recruitment Solutions Monika Mroz, Communication and information assistant - Candidate contact service, EPSO Ingrid Andersson, Career guidance counsellor, DG Human Resources, Unit for Career and performance management
During the Introduction to Networking workshop, Petr Mooz, the Head of Unit of DG Budget's Information and Communication Unit, will present his personal approach and share his networking experience gathered while a diplomat, business consultant, university lecturer and EU official.
